The Northern Territory Government has signed an agreement with the China Mining Association, in hope it will lead to the opening of new mines in Australia.

The deal was signed during a mining summit in Beijing and will involve the Territory Government providing mining research to potential foreign investors.

Territory Mines Minister Chris Natt says two Chinese companies have told him of their interest in doing business in the Territory.

"Both companies are new companies that knew little about the Northern Territory," he said.

"One is an industry called Bio Steel which is the fifth largest steel company in the world.

"One of them is going to pay a visit to Darwin within the next few months."
